My son absolutely loves Halloween and gets so excited about it every year! He spends the whole month preparing – decorating inside and outside the house, choosing his costume, and planning his trick-or-treat route.
When he was 2 years old, during our trick-or-treat adventure, we couldn’t find any safe treats for him because my child is allergic to corn. It was really tough to see him so disappointed after working so hard to collect all that candy. Unfortunately, almost every candy on the market contains corn syrup, which he can’t eat. Even though he was really bummed out, he understood it wasn’t worth getting sick.
That’s when I introduced the Switch Witch, and it sounded like such a fun idea! However, back then, it wasn’t easy to find allergy-friendly treats. We spent four hours trick-or-treating and ended up with two huge bags of candies. We took a picture, put everything back in the bags, and left them on the porch. My kiddo asked the witch to swap the bags so he could have his Halloween candy, and then he fell asleep while peering out the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of the witch making the switcheroo.
The next day, he was so excited to see his basket of treats waiting for him outside. As he’s gotten older, he’s made a point to pass out both regular and allergy-friendly candies to everyone.
As parents, we want our kids to have a healthy and happy Halloween experience. That’s why it’s important to be mindful of our children’s health needs while ensuring they have a memorable holiday. So, let’s take a look at some of the best candy alternatives out there and make this Halloween a spooky and special one!
